A young Vietnamese man who killed a taxi driver in Hanoi in January has been arrested and is set to be charged with murder.
Nguyen Canh An, 20, faces the death penalty if found guilty of murder, VN Express reported. According to authorities, Nguyen had left his home in Nghe An for Hanoi to find a job two months before the murder. He then planned a robbery when he ran out of money.
On January 29, Nguyen took a taxi to the My Dinh National Stadium. He pulled a knife and cut the driver’s throat as they reached the stadium. Nguyen immediately fled the scene without taking anything from the driver.
The victim, Nguyen Van Duy, 26, was last seen walking out of his taxi and screaming for help before he died. Authorities used statements given by witnesses and camera footage to track down Nguyen, who they caught on February 3 at an internet service shop in Hoa Binh province. He confessed that he attacked the taxi driver to steal from him.
