A little girl was plucked to safety after she fell inside a panda enclosure at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China.
Cell phone videos filmed by onlookers on February 9 show three pandas heading towards the little girl, CCTV reported. As the curious pandas get closer, the crowd of onlookers shout and urge the girl to escape.
At the same time, a security guard attempts to pull the girl to safety using a long pole, but without success as she is too terrified by the sight of the three pandas. She is finally plucked to safety when the guard is dangled by his legs into the enclosure and he is able to grab her arm.
According to local media, the girl’s parents had put her on top of a wall to get a better view of the pandas, after which she fell into the enclosure.
The research base issued a statement after the incident, stating that pandas are huge beasts and only people who are qualified are allowed to come in contact with them. Despite their soft and mellow nature, pandas are known to attack when agitated.
