A Filipino actress is up for two awards at this year’s Hong Kong Film Awards for her role in the independent film Still Human. Crisel Consuji, who plays the role of Evelyn, a former nurse who becomes a domestic worker in Hong Kong, is nominated in two major categories: Best Actress and Best New Performer, ABS-CBN News reported.

“I’m so happy to be one of the nominees, I’m grateful for everyone who worked on Still Human, especially the director Chan Siu-kuen for making this film that focuses on the problems Filipino domestic workers in Hong Kong face,” Consuji said.

The film, directed by Oliver Chan Siu-kuen, is also nominated for Best Film, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor. The film premiered at the Hong Kong Asian Festival in November last year.

In the film, Consuji’s character Evelyn gives up her dream of becoming a photographer so she could go to Hong Kong and become a domestic worker to earn a living. Evelyn ends up working for a paralyzed Chinese man who is in need of a caregiver.

Consuji is a singer and actress who went to Hong Kong in 2008 and worked as a lead vocalist in Hong Kong Disneyland. Aside from her career as an actress, the Filipina also co-founded Baumhaus Creative Arts Family Center that offers music and drama classes for children in Hong Kong.
