It sometimes pays to keep an easily excitable dog on a leash, as a man in China’s Hunan City discovered last Saturday. The man’s husky dog that so excited to see its owner it accidentally broke his neck when it jumped on him from the roof of their house.
On February 9, the dog lept off the roof of a two-story building after it saw the 67-year-old owner – surnamed Lau – come home after a week away, the Beijing Youth Daily reported. The 30-kilogram dog landed on Lau and knocked him out.
He was rushed to a hospital in Hunan City, Chenzhou. Doctors discovered his neck was broken and his spinal cord was dislocated. Emergency surgery was scheduled to treat his injuries.
Speaking from his bed in the hospital, Lau said he initially thought a piece of the wall had collapsed from the building. He later realized his dog had caused the injury. He added that he did not blame his husky for the accident, but would try to keep the dog on a leash more often.
He had adopted the dog only a few months ago. Doctors estimated Lau will need at least three to six months to recover. The huskie was not injured after his leap from the roof, but is now believed to be on a leash.
