Police in Ho Chi Minh City chased and arrested a crossdresser after he stole a mobile phone from a Chinese tourist on Sunday.
Authorities had been monitoring 31-year-old Nguyen Thanh Tay for some time when they spotted him on his motorbike in central District 1 on February 24, VN Express reported. Police saw Nguyen approach two Chinese tourists and flirt with them.
He also touched their genitals as a way of distracting them while he nabbed an iPhone from one of the tourist’s pockets. Nguyen then jumped on his motorbike and tried to get away as police gave chase. He was eventually caught and was taken in for questioning.
An unnamed police officer said Nguyen was being tailed by police for a long time. The Chinese tourist was given his iPhone back.
In 2018, police in Ho Chi Minch City arrested two cross-dressing men who stole a mobile phone from a Canadian. Ho Chi Minh City is one of the most tourist-heavy cities in the country but is also plagued by street thefts that target foreign tourists.
