A British woman who slapped an immigration officer at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport has been sentenced to six months in prison.

A video that showed Auj E. Taqqadas slapping the official was filmed last July and soon went viral, The Jakarta Post reported. She was reportedly barred from boarding a plane after officials saw that her visa had run out. 

The trial started in early December, with a verdict scheduled to be delivered on January 21. However, the did not make herself available for sentencing, and dodged the authorities on two occasions before she was finally arrested at Lippo Mall in Kuta on February 6.

Presiding judge Esthar Oktavi found Taqqadas guilty of violence against an official according to Article 212 of the Indonesian Criminal Code and sentenced her to six months’ imprisonment.

The woman described the penalty as unfair and stated that she will appeal the sentence.

Taqqadas has been handed over to the Immigration Office, where she will be processed for overstaying her visa before she is delivered to jail.
