An accident at an ice lantern show in Beijing last week left one dead with 12 injured from falling rocks. At 8:07 pm on February 8, rocks fell through the ceiling of the exhibition area at the Longqing Gorge in Yanqing district, Xinhua News reported.
The falling rocks injured 13 visitors, who were promptly taken to a nearby hospital. Despite resuscitation attempts, a 30-year-old woman died. One visitor was hospitalized for a fracture, with four others transferred to another hospital in the city for treatment. The remaining seven victims have been discharged with minor injuries.
The Longqing Gorge area has been closed and will not be opened until further notice. The site has offered full refunds for people who had pre-ordered tickets.
