來自紐約的網友Lisa是一個華裔美食博客，擅長自己烹飪製作美食。最近，她在社交平台Instagram（IG）上傳了自己媽媽做飯的視頻和照片，沒想到一下子瘋狂漲粉，她的媽媽也因此從一個普通的婆婆，成為了備受關注的網紅。
據《華盛頓郵報》報導，Lisa的媽媽本名林蘭（Lan Lin，音譯），今年73歲，來自廣東台山。林媽媽不懂英語，也不知道IG是什麼，甚至對網絡的事情都知之甚少。她本着疼愛女兒的心，天天給女兒做各種好吃的。
在一個視頻裏，林媽媽穿著妥協和圍裙站在她位於舊金山的小廚房里，用自製的臘肉、蝦乾和蔬菜做著煲仔飯。Lisa則靠在媽媽肩上，用手機拍下這個過程。當她問媽媽需要多少米的時候，媽媽回答「7杯」，用來量米的這個杯子，是媽媽32年前飛來美國的時候帶來的。
Lisa不但會拍林媽媽做菜的樣子，還會邀請林媽媽在做菜時對着鏡頭嘮嘮家常，比如介紹菜怎麼做，有沒有什麼有趣的回憶等等。
視頻裡，Lisa也用英語全程為觀眾進行翻譯，這樣即使聽不懂台山話的人聽着英文解說和文字說明也可以完全理解了。不過，並不是所有中餐的處理方法都可以完全翻譯成英文，這對Lisa來說是一個挑戰。如何做好一個餃子、包好一個粽子，泡發蝦乾以及揉麵團，都是只可意會不可言傳。
Lisa曾經是一個律師，轉做美食blogger，目前她的IG已經有7.5萬粉絲。剛開始錄製媽媽做飯時，她只是想學一學母親的手藝：「有的菜色如果沒有傳承的話，就會自此消失了。」林媽媽則奇怪地說，誰會喜歡看我一個老年人絮絮叨叨這些無聊的事呀！
沒想到，這些視頻引發了網友們的共鳴，全美各地的中國移民們都來觀看Lisa拍的視頻。後來隨着知名度越來越高，其他國家和地區的海外華人也成為了她們的粉絲。
為什麼Lisa的視頻和照片吸引了那麼多人？因為在視頻裡，一個慈祥的老奶奶一邊做着好看又好吃的中國傳統美食，一邊用家鄉話（台山話）跟大家拉着家常，場景平凡又溫馨。
粉絲們也時常在林媽媽的照片和視頻的下面，與Lisa和林媽媽互動。Lisa的一名粉絲名叫Gillian，當她第一次看到林媽媽和Lisa一邊炸麻球、一邊用台山話聊天的視頻時，她聽到了這熟悉的方言，點燃了她的思鄉之情。「這對我來說太有意義了，當我在看着她和媽媽一起做菜的視頻時，也聽到了伴隨着我長大的熟悉口音。當我看到這些食物，聽到這些話語，我感覺好像回到了家。」
粉絲們也跟著Lisa一起學習林媽媽的做菜方法。林媽媽在1986年從中國移民來到美國波特蘭，初時在親戚的餐館裏做菜。林媽媽說：「做菜對我來說更是一門生存的手藝。」Lisa會幫助簡化母親的食譜裏那些難以獲得的材料和複雜的步驟，讓人不需要去亞洲超市進行採購也可以做出類似的菜式。
