أفرجت تايلاند عن لاعب الكرة البحريني حكيم العريبي اليوم الإثنين بعد سحب البحرين طلب تسليمه، وتم نقله للمطار للعودة لأستراليا حيث يقيم، بحسب وكالة رويترز.
كانت السلطات التايلاندية ألقت القبض على العريبي الحاصل على حق اللجوء في أستراليا فور وصوله لقضاء أجازة في نوفمبر/تشرين الثاني وظل محتجز حتى بت القضاء التايلاندي في طلب تسليم من البحرين.
كان العريبي حصل على حق اللجوء في أستراليا بعد هروبه من البحرين في 2013، حيث تتهمه السلطات بالمشاركة في تخريب مركز شرطة أثناء المظاهرات المناهضة للحكومة في 2012.
قبضت السلطات البحرينية على العريبي في نوفمبر/تشرين الثاني 2012 بتهم التخريب وأفرجت عنه بكفالة ثم أصدرت له تصريحاً استثنائياً للسفر في ديسمبر/كانون الأول 2013 للمشاركة في بطولة كرة قدم في قطر مع المنتخب البحريني.
استطاع اللاعب الهرب من قطر إلى إيران ثم إلى أستراليا حيث يقيم كلاجيء منذ أربع سنوات. أدان القضاء البحريني العريبي بعدة جرائم في يناير/كانون الثاني 2014
