More than a dozen foreign women from India and Indonesia were arrested in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, by Immigration authorities on Friday for allegedly being involved in prostitution.
After receiving complaints from members of the public, Negeri Sembilan Immigration officers started to investigate two premises in Taman Semarak Nilai where units had allegedly been used as a brothel popular with migrant workers in the area, The Sin Chew Daily (Malaysia) reported.
After a month of investigation and surveillance, immigration officers raided the locations on January 4 where 13 women – one Indian and 12 Indonesians – were arrested.
Two other women – a Malaysian and an Indonesian – were also detained on suspicion of running the premises as a brothel and using the foreign women as prostitutes.
About 1,500 ringgit in cash and condoms were recovered and seized at the scene as evidence. A preliminary investigation showed that each transaction cost between 50 and 100 ringgit (US$12.2-$24.3).
The women were detained at Lenggeng Immigration Depot for further investigation.
