A 41-year-old woman appeared at the District Court in Hong Kong on Monday where she pleaded guilty to wounding her husband’s mistress with a knife.
The defendant Ming Yong-fang, the mother of an 11-year-old daughter, pleaded guilty to one count of wounding and inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, Sing Pao reported.
The defense lawyer told the court that the defendant came to Hong Kong from mainland China and married a Hong Kong man in 2008. Their daughter was born in the same year.
The court heard that the victim, a 55-year-old married woman surnamed Wong, had had an affair with Ming’s husband since she began working for his company in 2014.
The defense lawyer said the defendant had earlier talked to Wong, hoping to convince her to break up with her husband, but Wong refused.
Ming’s husband later moved out to live with Wong, who later divorced her husband.
The court heard that since the break-up with her husband, the defendant suffered depression, anorexia nervosa and insomnia and needed psychiatric therapy.
On January 15 last year, the defendant went to a building in Kowloon’s Mong Kok where her husband and Wong lived. There, she asked Wong to leave her husband and an argument ensued.
Though the defendant claimed that she carried a knife only for self-defense, she stabbed Wong in the abdomen three times.
The defendant did not leave after the stabbing and was arrested by the police on the spot.
The husband and Wong’s daughter both wrote letters to the judge asking for leniency.
The case was adjourned to January 30 pending sentencing.
