A Kenyan woman in Dubai has been accused of blinding a Filipino woman when she attacked her with acid. In March last year, the 48-year-old Filipina was visiting her male Kenyan friend in his apartment in the Al Satwa area.

The Filipina said she went to pick up the shoes she forgot to take home the day before, Gulf News reported. The Filipina said in court she was sitting on the side of her friend’s bed while she waited to use the bathroom.

The defendant, a 30-year-old Kenyan woman, suddenly came into the room holding a white plastic bottle and poured acid on the Filipina’s face, hands and legs.

On Sunday in the Dubai Court of First Instance, a Kenyan man testified that he was using his laptop while lying on his bed when the Filipina came asking her for shoes.

“She sat beside me on the bed when the defendant came and poured the bottle over her, dousing her from head to toe. Smoke rose from her head,” the man said.

The man said he suffered severe pain as some of the acid splashed on him too. He and the Filipina then went to the bathroom to wash off the acid and then to Rashid Hospital for treatment.

The Filipina said she went through painful surgeries and was now blind. “I only can see direct light to my eyes,” she said.

The Kenyan woman denied causing disability to the Filipina, but admitted she attacked her with acid. She confessed that she wanted to hurt the Filipina. Police went to the hospital and later arrested the woman.

According to the court, the woman threw two liters of acid on the Filipina and was accused of causing disability and total blindness to the woman.
