A Vietnamese woman in Pingtung, Southern Taiwan, was arrested after allegedly operating an illegal casino at her home, where a total of 11 customers were also caught in the act of gambling.

In response to public complaints, officers from Donggang Precinct of the Pingtung County Police Bureau raided the home, where various gambling tools and NT$987,000 (US$31,983) in cash were seized as evidence, The Real Daily reported, citing the police.

A preliminary investigation suggested the Vietnamese woman, surnamed Lam, had been the mastermind of the illegal gambling business for some time. All those arrested were referred to the Pingtung District Prosecutors Office for further investigation.

The police chief of the Donggang Precinct of Pingtung County Police Bureau appealed to the general public to flag any illegal activities to local police.

The chief said further arrests for illegal gambling were expected amid the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.
