A 15-year-old boy is in hospital with critical head injuries after being hit by a bus in Tai Po, the New Territories on Wednesday morning.

At around 8am, a secondary school student surnamed Ho was running across the pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Nam Wan Road and Tat Wan Road in Tai Po when he slammed into the side of a KMB bus, Sing Pao reported.

The bus hit the boy’s head leading him to fall unconscious to the ground. He was rushed to the Prince of Wales Hospital.

A KMB spokeswoman said the driver surnamed Li, 52, contacted the police after learning of the accident. He passed an alcohol test and was not arrested.

Police initially listed the case as “hit and run,” but later reclassified it to “traffic accident with person injured” after they found the driver at the bus terminus, am730 reported.

The boy’s father accused the bus driver of being irresponsible, questioning why he did not stop the bus to check what had happened.
