A Filipino woman was robbed by three Nigerian men who took her handbag, cash and mobile phones in Dubai. The 43-year-old Filipina said she was waiting at a bus stop in Hor Al Anz when a man suddenly yelled at her and tried to take her phone.
During the altercation, another man showed up and took the Filipina’s handbag and ran away, the Khaleej Times reported. The men stole 2,500 dirhams (US$680) in cash, two mobile phones, a credit card and cheques from the Filipina.
Aside from the Filipina, nine other victims had filed complaints at the Al Murqabbat Police Station after they were also robbed of their handbags by the same men in different areas in Al Mamzar, Hor Al Anz, Al Baraha and Al Wehaida in Dubai.
Several of the victims sustained minor injuries as they were assaulted while trying to resist the robbery. An Indian woman also filed a complaint after she was accosted by a man while she was leaving the Hamriya Central Market. The man took her handbag containing gold items and 3,000 dirhams and ran away.
Police were able to identify the three suspects and arrested them at their residence, where handbags of different colors and sizes were found. Police said the three men admitted to stealing the handbags on different occasions.
The three will stand trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance where they face charges for theft. If convicted, the three face imprisonment and deportation for their crimes.
