A 24-year-old Pakistani man was sentenced to 10 years in jail by the High Court to one count of rape and three counts of theft on Wednesday.

Ali Nazakat denied the charge of rape but a jury unanimously found him guilty earlier, Ming Pao Daily reported. Judge Patrick Li reprimanded the defendant as despicable, saying he planned to commit the rape and targeted the drunk woman.

Because he did not use a condom during the rape, the 29-year-old victim suffered not only physical harm but also depression. The victim has been taking medication since the incident.

The court earlier heard that on December 6, 2016, the victim and friends had drinks in Lan Kwai Fong in Central on Hong Kong Island.

She could not remember the details of what happened after drinking, but later, she woke after sleeping on a sofa in a flat in an industrial building in the New Territories’ Kwai Chung. The man sat next to her. She was well dressed when she woke up.

She returned home and suspected she had been raped and reported the case to police. After a medical examination, doctors found DNA samples on her matched the defendant.
