A 29-year-old woman who recently gave birth to a daughter suffered critical injuries after falling from a building in Tsing Yi, the New Territories on Wednesday.

The woman, surnamed Lau, gave birth to a baby girls on January 12. She was said to have suffered from mental illness during her pregnancy, requiring her to be on medication while in hospital, Oriental Daily reported.

After the baby was born, Lau suffered from insomnia and told her family members that taking care of a baby was a hard job and that she was not getting enough sleep.

At one point she discussed wanting to kill herself.

To give Lau support, her mother and sister helped her to take care of the newborn together at an apartment in Easeful Court in Tsing Yi.

On Wednesday afternoon, Lau’s husband took the baby for medical check-up while the three women stayed at home.

It is thought that Lau climbed out of a window and jumped without her mother and sister knowing. When her sister discovered what had happened, she called the emergency services. Paramedics found Lau unconscious and rushed her to hospital.

Officers were unable to find a suicide note in the apartment. However they classed the case as attempted suicide.
