A video has gone viral after it showed passengers smoking, arguing and kicking the doors of a Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway (MTR) train on Wednesday.

At 6am, three men who were thought to be South Asian and two women were seen in an MTR train heading to Kowloon from Central on Hong Kong Island, Apple Daily reported.

According to the passenger named Thomas who shot the video, three men were sitting opposite him. One of the men lit a cigarette and smoked inside the train.

The second video clip showed the group quarreling with another group of South Asians on the train. The two groups yelled at and jostled each other, leading other passengers to walk away.

When the train arrived at Yau Ma Tei station, two men from the first group got off the train before the doors closed, leaving the rest behind.  Those left behind kicked and pulled the doors, forcing them to open.

Thomas, who was still in the train, learned from the second group of men who were involved in the quarrel that the two groups did not know each other, but had met and had a dispute in a pub in Central the night before.

The report did not mention which nationality the groups belonged to.

According to the MTR by-laws, no person shall smoke or carry a lighted pipe, cigar or cigarette or naked flame in any form in other part of the railway premises where smoking is prohibited by notice. The maximum penalty for the offender is a fine of HK$5,000 (US$638).
