A Filipino man has been arrested for stealing a smartphone, which he tried to sell to its original owner in Laguna in the Philippines.

On January 2, a woman and her daughter were walking along a road in Calamba, Laguna, when the woman’s phone was snatched by a man identified as Richardson Garcia. The woman’s daughter said she tried to track the phone but failed, GMA News reported.

After a few days, the daughter saw the stolen phone being sold online by the suspect. She pretended to be a buyer and met with Garcia. The police then immediately arrested him during the entrapment operation.

During questioning, he claimed he found the phone and did not steal it. The woman opted not to press charges against Garcia after the man’s mother promised to take him to the police station if he repeated the crime.
