A landslide in Bali buried a house and left two dead and 12 injured on Sunday. According to The Jakarta Post, all the victims were from the same family.

The Bai Disaster Mitigation Agency said a six-meter hillside near the house in Ban village, Karangasem, came down and buried the house as the family watched television in the evening on January 27.

Dewa Putu Mantera, the head of the agency, said all the family members were inside the house when the landslide happened, trapping them all. Fifteen minutes after the landslide, I Komang Andre was able to escape the house and alert the neighbors.

Mantera added that the agency conducted a joint operation with the police and the Search and Rescue Agency. The injured were quickly taken to two separate health centers for treatment.

Ni Ketut Puspa Wati, 28, and Ni Komang Mertini, 19, were identified as the two victims.

According to Indonesian authorities, the rainy season had started, bringing natural disasters to the country. In the past few days, dozens of people have lost their lives to disasters that have also displaced thousands.

Authorities also stressed that deforestation and other man-made damage to watersheds had fuelled the number of disasters in recent years.
