A Hong Kong man was charged with one count of rape at the High Court on Tuesday involving a newly arrived Indonesian domestic worker, five days after she started work at his home.
The defendant, 27-year-old Fung Hoi-yeung, a construction worker, allegedly raped a 25-year-old Indonesian domestic worker in a public housing apartment in Tin Tsz Estate in Tin Shui Wai, the New Territories, in 2017, Oriental Daily reported.
The court heard that the Indonesian domestic worker, who was working overseas for the first time, arrived in Hong Kong on October 13, 2017. She is married and has a two-year-old daughter in Indonesia living with her husband.
The man, his parents, four sisters and his two-year-old daughter live in two adjacent flats in the housing estate. The man, his daughter and the domestic worker lived in one of the flats, while his parents and four sisters live in another flat. The maid reported for duty on October 16.
The court heard that on October 21, the maid put the girl to bed at about 2 am and returned to her room to rest. An hour later, the man knocked on her bedroom door, spoke to her in Cantonese which she did not understand before he pushed her on her bed and raped her.
The prosecutor told the court the woman resisted, but as she is only five-feet tall, she was not able to struggle free from the six-foot tall man.
The defendant left her room after the rape. She locked the door and texted her agent, telling her she could not stay inside the flat any longer and asked the agent to respond as soon as possible.
She also said she was afraid she would get pregnant and her husband would know about the incident. The agent saw the text message the following morning and reported the case to police.
The maid said the man left the flat for work at 7 am. Because she needed to take care of the girl, she did not go out and seek help.
Officers arrived at the flat at noon after receiving the report. They collected the woman’s clothes and bed sheet for examination and later confirmed that both her blood and the defendant’s sperm were found.
The man denied the charge and the case continues.
