A gang in Vietnam which smuggled drugs from neighboring Cambodia was busted by police in Ho Chi Minh City this month. Police had been tailing 36-year-old Bui Pham Duy and on January 22 they followed him to a school in Hoc Mon district and saw him hand a package to Nguyen Thi Xuan Van, 29, VN Express reported.
Authorities jumped in and caught them red-handed. Four kilograms of methamphetamine, half a kilo of ketamine, 5,000 ecstasy pills and a synthetic drug were found in the package.
Duy’s home was then searched, where 20 kilograms of methamphetamine, 15,000 ecstasy pills and six kilograms of ketamine were retrieved.
Duy had been allegedly running a drug trafficking gang with Nguyen Hong Chau, 32, who had been bringing drugs into the country from Cambodia.
Vietnam’s penal code for drug-related crimes is extremely strict. If found guilty of possessing or smuggling a certain amount of drugs, the death penalty may be given.
