A 56-year-old daredevil dubbed as the “French Spiderman” was arrested after he climbed a skyscraper without any safety gear in Makati City in the Philippines on Tuesday morning.
Alain Robert, who has been arrested in many countries for climbing tall structures including the Eiffel Tower without permission, was seen scaling the side of the G.T. International Tower, thought to be the seventh highest building in Makati City, ABS-CBN News reported.
The Frenchman had no safety gear and wore only a dark, long-sleeved shirt and pants with a camera attached to his head. People on their way to work caught sight of Robert and began sharing it on social media.
Robert was arrested shortly after he descended from the building and was being held by Makati police. He may face charges of breaking city ordinances.
The French daredevil started climbing buildings at the age of 11 and holds a Guinness World Record for “most buildings climbed” after conquering a total of 121 structures in 2015.
Among the structures Roberts climbed were the Sydney Opera House, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the Empire State Building in New York and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world’s tallest building.
