A Filipino man arrested in California in the United States has been accused of stabbing his own mother to death.
On January 10, San Jose Police Department received a call from the suspect Michael Ablaza, 25, who claimed he found his mother Maribeth Ablaza, 52 unresponsive at her home.
When the authorities arrived, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Mercury News reported.
The victim was found lying face up on a couch, showing puncture wounds to her torso and arms. Investigators later discovered more stab wounds on her back and collar.
Ablaza claimed that he had been away all day and came home to find the door unlocked and his mother dead.
According to the police, there were no signs of a break-in or robbery. The next day, Ablaza was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of murder. He is being held without bail.
San Jose Police Officer Gina Tepoorten said homicide detectives identified Ablaza as the person responsible for the murder. They said this is the city’s first homicide case of the year.
Detectives said Ablaza’s account of allegedly discovering his mother’s body was full of inconsistencies. He also had scratches on his right arm, which they suspected may have come from his mother defending herself against him.
They later found that Ablaza had conflicts with his mother. There were also traces of blood in various parts of the house, which suggested there had been a cleanup before they were called to the scene.
