A 41-year-old Filipina domestic worker appeared in West Kowloon Magistrates Court on Monday to face a charge of one count of drug trafficking.
Michelle Mardo, a mother of three, was arrested in September last year when she received a parcel with cocaine inside at her address in Yuen Long in the New Territories, sunwebhk.com reported.
The court heard that the parcel arrived at Hong Kong International Airport from Ecuador on September 7. A customs and excise department officer found the drugs concealed between layers of four wooden boxes inside the parcel.
A total of 296.3 grams of pure cocaine was found.
The woman was arrested on September 27 when an officer disguised as a UPS courier delivered the parcel and she answered the door and took delivery, saying it was from a friend overseas.
Magistrate Ada Yim adjourned the hearing until February 18 in the Eastern Magistrates’ Court, from where it is expected to be transferred to a higher court for either sentencing or trial.
