A domestic worker called police after discovering a 23-year-old man had attempted to commit suicide in a villa in Sai Kung in the New Territories on Monday.
At 2 pm the man, who was living with his family in a villa in Habitat Block on Hiram’s Highway in Sai Kung, suddenly became emotional and rushed into a room, the Oriental Daily reported.
The domestic worker then heard a scream. When she went to the room, she found the man on the floor and unconscious. He had stabbed himself in the chest with a pair of scissors and was bleeding.
The domestic worker called police and paramedics arrived and took the man to a hospital, where he later regained consciousness. After an initial investigation, police found a suicide note in the bedroom saying the man said was unhappy and puzzled about life.
The Hong Kong Commercial Daily newspaper said the man suffered pressure from his studies. Police believed no foul play was involved and classed the case as an attempted suicide.
