A 33-year-old Filipina domestic worker was granted bail at the Eastern Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for allegedly stealing money from her employer.

Ana Lietze Alta Berbana was arrested for allegedly stealing 1,700 Renminbi (US$248) in cash from her employer Wong Man-nga on December 22 last year, sunwebhk.com reported.

She first appeared in court on December 24 for mention of the case, then returned to the court on Tuesday and offered to post HK$6,000 (US$765) bail. The prosecutor did not object. Magistrate Peter Law granted the application.

The defendant gave an address in Hunghom in Kowloon where she will stay while on bail. The magistrate ordered her to stay in that address and to report to the Hung Hom Police Station between 6 pm and 9 pm on Thursdays.

The next hearing of her case will be on February 2. According to Hong Kong law, any person found guilty of theft can be jailed for up to 10 years.
