A deaf-mute bartender who had been popular with his customers in Vietnam was allegedly beaten to death by a foreigner on New Year’s Eve.

On December 31 near Bach Dang Street in Da Nang, a fight between a group of Europeans and staff members in the Simple Ma and Golden Pine bars broke out, VN Express reported.

During the altercation, Golden Pine’s 36-year-old deaf-mute bartender Le Ngoc Chuan was repeatedly hit in the head by one of the Europeans before he passed out.

Chuan was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his wounds on January 5. He leaves behind his pregnant wife and child. He was reportedly a well-liked bartender among the local expats.

According to local media, police have launched investigations and are trying to find the assailant. Expat forum Cambodia Expats Online saw people opening up a GoFundMe for the late bartender, with all the funds going to his family.

A photo of a suspect linked to the incident was also put on the same forum.
