Actor Darren Criss has become the first Filipino-American to win a Golden Globe. The award was for his role in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

On Sunday evening during the 2018 Golden Globe awards night, Criss took home the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for his portrayal of Andrew Cunanan, a Filipino-American serial killer in the series, Rappler reported.

Criss dedicated his award to his Filipino mother, who comes from Cebu. This was Criss’ first Golden Globe award in his acting career.

“This has been a marvelous year for representation in Hollywood, and I’m so enormously proud to be a teeny-tiny part of that as the son of a firecracker Filipino woman from Cebu,” Criss said in his acceptance speech.

Last September, Criss won an Emmy Award for the same role in the TV series that told the true story of Cunanan and his murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace in 1997.
