Intelligence agencies across the English-speaking world are in widespread agreement about the race to roll out next-generation mobile networks. Top officials from Australia, the UK, Canada and the United States have all said recently that using Chinese telecom giant Huawei’s equipment poses a national security threat.
For service providers in those countries, going along with that assessment comes with a catch. There is no good alternative.
The United States, for its part, offers no competitive fifth-generation wireless network equipment. Europe’s Nokia and Ericsson, meanwhile, are both struggling to catch up to Huawei. South Korea’s Samsung is investing heavily in the area but has come to the party late.
Huawei has been able to offer equipment and services at a fraction of the price of its competitors – a feat that has prompted accusations from both the United States and the European Union that it benefited from unfair government subsidies. The firm has grown exponentially in the process to leapfrog Nokia and Ericsson and become the world’s largest telecommunications equipment supplier by a wide margin.
This is despite the fact that they have long been almost entirely cut out of the US market.
UK executives summed up the sorry predicament of the US-led effort to boycott Huawei, per The Wall Street Journal:
“Executives at one major British wireless carrier say Huawei can deliver products nearly a year before Nokia and Ericsson can offer hardware with comparable technology. They said they were telling U.K. officials, who plan to decide by spring 2019 whether to exclude major Huawei equipment from the country, that blacklisting Huawei could delay by nine months the U.K.’s launch of 5G, the coming generation of superfast wireless technology.”
Nokia and Ericsson, the report says, are also wary that they may be shut out of China’s market if they take advantage of Huawei being shut out of other markets. Indeed, at 15,000, Nokia’s workforce inside the China region is about double that in its home base of Finland. Ericsson, meanwhile, has 12,000 employees in northeast Asia.
Australia and New Zealand have already signed on to the US boycott of Huawei’s 5G gear, leaving their service providers with no choice but to wait for lagging and more expensive alternatives. But there still appears to be resistance in the UK, France and Germany. 2019 will be the year when companies in those countries either hit the ground running with Huawei or are reluctantly forced to save other firms from a terminal decline into irrelevance.

5G technology is at least 18 months from even being stable to use.
This is just an opinion piece pitting countries against each other. Blah.
4G technology sucked for a decade. 5G tech isn’t suddenly going to be great.

That stupid from US gave their technology to China 2 decades ago. Now they just awake.

David Khoo I have personally witnessed Chinese manufacturers steal designs from myself and others and we tried using the courts to get monies stolen from patient infridgement. Chinese courts repeatedily disregarded/ignored/refused entry of clear and direct evidence proving these actions and Canadian/US court rulings resulted in going after Ghosted companies and the continuous repackaging of products, along with using overseas shell companies, which made it all but impossible to track. We then watched these pirates sell OUR designed products across the Globe to European, Asian and South American countries, where it was logistically impossible to get a court case going. Millions of dollars in R+D GONE and never recouped, never recovered!

Cause the Chinese will spy but America won’t? ????????????.. Lying Hypocrites
Cause the Chinese will spy but America won’t? ????????????.. Lying Hypocrites
Today, in America, the finest brains in the US are in finance and not in STEM sectors of the economy. In China, the best and the brightest study STEM. There was a time when the best and the brightest from around the world were attracted to work in the US because that’s where the best jobs, R&D as well as the highest standard of living was. These foreign engineers and scientists were the reasons for the US breakthroughs in many fields leading to its dominance in those fields. Today, with many countries developing their own economies and also the change in attitude towards foreigners taking away jobs from Americans in the US, many of those scientists are choosing to go back home instead. That has caused technological advancement in the US to slow down which countries like China’s pick up. All the accusations about China stealing technology is BS because they make accusations without providing a single shred of evidence. What the US is trying to do is to keep repeating that lie because they control the English media. They know that if they repeat that lie enough times, ignorant people will believe it to be the truth. A good example of this is the lie that Huawei hardware is spying for the Chinese government. Even though countries like Germany and others have already tested Huawei equipment thoroughly and found no evidence of these alleged spying, the western media nonetheless still keep repeating these lies. The reason is very simple. It’s not about national security. It’s about US technology companies not being able to innovate as fast as their Chinese counterparts. In 5G, huawei has already deployed their own 5G chip and will be rolling out it’s 5G network nation wide this year in 2019. The US is way behind. No 5G chip and not even a working prototype of a 5G network. They know they cannot compete innovation wise, so what do they do? They play dirty by making fake claims about huawei spying and immediately ban all things Huawei even though they cannot provide a single shred of evidence to back up their claim. It’s not about national security. It’s about China beating them in many technologies. A few years ago when China built the fastest super computer in the world (shenwei taihulight), US responded by banning exports of high end Intel chips to China. Result? China built it’s own chip that was even better and more powerful than their Intel equivalent. That just shows you how underhanded the US is in its desperate attempt to remain dominant. Sour grapes is what they are. They just cannot conceed defeat to a stronger opponent. Typical US attitude. In so many fields, China had soundly beaten the US based on its on innovation, fields like quantum satellites, high speed train, hypersonic gliders and missiles, fusion energy breakthroughs, nuclear energy reactor designs, super computers, 5G and many more. In these fields, China has proven without a doubt that it’s innovations in these fields are leading the world. Yet the US will never acknowledge China’s many accomplishments because to do so means to accept the fact that they are no longer exceptional. How silly and childish. Remember that pride comes before a fall. Well done China! Keep innovating. One day, even sour grapes US will have no choice but to acknowledge your strength.

For those countries boycotting huawei, using Chinese gear is the safest option as US spying everyone regardless of allies or not. As Edward Snowden revealed in the US PRISM prgram, US National Security Agency NSA has tapped Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel’s phone for 8 years since 2003. Canadian prime misnister keeps saying Canada plays by the rules. Remember, there is no rules in this world and US national interests is the only rule. To all US allies including Japan and Germany etc, their prime minister being spyied by US is legitimate as the rules is US national interests. US asks its allies to boycott Chinese equipment beccase Chinese gear will disable US spying on these countries.
