Two foreign nationals were found dead in separate locations in Brunei after they went missing while swimming in unpredictable weather conditions.

On the morning of January 2, the body of a 15-year-old Filipino boy was found about 500 meters from the Berakas Recreational Forest Reserve Beach, Borneo Bulletin reported. The boy had reportedly gone out to swim during a New Year’s Day beach outing.

Shortly before noon, the body of an unnamed Indonesian national, 23, was found by marine police in waters near The Empire Hotel & Country Club. He had gone missing after swimming at Tungku Beach in the nation’s capital Bandar Seri Begawan.

Brunei has seen unpredictable weather conditions in the past few weeks, and the authorities have released advisory warnings for citizens to pay attention to tidal conditions before they go swimming.

In a statement released by the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, it was reported that a low-pressure system is in play approximately 400 kilometers north of Brunei, which could bring unsettled weather conditions in the coming days.
