A 32-year-old Bangladeshi man was sentenced to four years in jail by a Singapore court on Monday after pleading guilty to criminal intimidation and transmitting obscene material by electronic means after posting nude photos online of a 28-year-old foreign woman who had rejected him in September last year.

The court heard that Islam Rokibul was a marine trade worker, while the woman, whose name and nationality were not disclosed to protect her identity, was a foreign domestic worker in Singapore, the Shin Min Daily News reported.

The court heard the pair met on Facebook in 2018 and the man had a crush on the woman. One day while the woman was showering, she allowed a video call with the accused via Facebook Messenger, during which the man secretly took multiple screenshots of her face and naked body without her knowledge or consent.

By early September, the woman stopped talking with the man, who then called her a few days later and threatened to broadcast her nude photos online if she declined to be involved in a permanent relationship with him.

He allegedly repeated his threat by making several calls and sent her text messages, but in vain. The man decided to take revenge on the woman by posting seven photos clearly showing her face and nude body on social media platform IMO.

The woman filed her case with the Yishun North Neighbourhood Police Centre on October 4. Officers recovered a total of 10 pictures of the woman.

Despite the fact that the pictures on the social media platform had been deleted, the victim was reportedly harassed by some unknown people from time to time who forwarded her the nude pictures of herself and tried to solicit sex from her.
