A 24-year-old domestic worker from Myanmar who started working for a Singaporean family in a flat in Choa Chu Kang two weeks ago has died after a fall from the fifth floor of the HDB building last Thursday.

The incident happened at around 1.40pm on November 29 at HDB Block 488C on Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5, the Lianhe Wanbao (Singapore) reported.

Neighbors told a reporter that the employer’s family was friendly. The couple had a 10-year-old son and lived with their elderly parents. They believed that the worker was hired to take care of the elderly man, who became wheelchair-bound recently.

One of the neighbors, Andy, said he met the worker a few times, who was quiet and apparently sad.

Based on the site where the woman’s body was discovered, he suspected the victim fell from the fifth-floor garbage room, which suggested the worker had not fallen while doing domestic chores at home.

The Singapore police said that they were alerted to a case of unnatural death at HDB Block 488C on Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5 at 1.42pm on November 29.

The cause of the worker’s fatal fall was being investigated, they said.
