A male Filipino nurse was sentenced to three years in prison for accidentally killing a colleague in Dubai. He was also punished after being found guilty of committing a sex offense, plus drinking alcohol and lying to police.

One night in August, the Filipino nurse and his colleague, also Filipino, were drunk and walking back to their residence in Al Satwa when they were stopped by a Pakistani man who asked to have sex with them in the street, Gulf News reported.

After their sexual encounter, the Filipino nurse told his colleague that he wanted to go home, but his colleague refused. The two had an argument which resulted in a fight and ended with the colleague dying after his head hit the pavement.

The Filipino nurse was not aware that his colleague had died and thought he just fell on the floor. He went home, but returned to where his colleague was after 30 minutes. He saw the victim’s body on the ground.

He called the police and claimed that some Pakistani men chased them and pushed the victim, who fell and died after his head hit the pavement.

However, when questioned by the police, the Filipino nurse admitted that he and his colleague were drunk and got into an argument. He told the police that he pushed the victim to the ground.

Dubai Police’s forensic examiners said the victim succumbed to severe hemorrhage in his skull.

On Monday at the Dubai Court of First Instance, the Filipino nurse was convicted of assaulting his compatriot and causing his unintended death.

The Filipino was also convicted by the Dubai Misdemeanours Court for having oral sex with the Pakistani man. He and the Pakistani were jailed one year for that offense.

The Filipino was also handed two extra months in jail for drinking alcohol and falsely telling police that other men had pushed his workmate before he died.

The Court of First Instance said the Filipino would be deported after his jail terms were served.
