Hong Kong police are hunting for a man who allegedly trying to abduct a primary school pupil by offering her HK$200 (US$25.60) in Sai Ying Pun on Hong Kong Island.
On Wednesday morning, as the 8-year-old girl was walking from school towards her home, she realized that a man was following her, Apple Daily reported.
The girl, who is a primary two student at Chiu Sheung School on Hong Kong island, was walking home to her apartment building on Des Voeux Road West, having been released early from school following an examination.
The man followed her into the building where she lived and took the same elevator as she did. The girl reportedly found this strange, but returned home safely.
Ten minutes later, she left home to go downstairs to buy some food. There, she found the same man wandering around.
The man approached her and said, “I’ll give you $200 if you follow me back to my home”.
This frightened the girl, and she ran back home. That evening, she told her father what had happened, and he immediately reported the case to the police.
The primary school has issued a notice to parents informing them of the incident, saying that although the pupil was unharmed, the school wanted to warn parents and students, especially those who returned home by themselves, news website HK01.com reported.
The crime investigation unit of Western District Police Station is investigating the case. They are hunting a medium-built man aged 25 to 30, about 1.75 meters tall and wearing a white short-sleeved shirt, black sneakers and a red, black and white cap.
