A Filipino man has been awarded the title of Nurse of the Year at the 2018 Barchester Care Awards in the United Kingdom.
Ridel Francisco, who works at Lynde House in Richmond, London, emerged as winner of the prestigious award after he beat 1,500 nominees from all across the UK, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a statement.
“I am very proud and very honored to be receiving this award,” Francisco said.
The awards ceremony honors staff and volunteers who go the extra mile in caring for residents and patients living in care homes and mental health hospitals.
Barchester’s Director of Nursing Julia Atherton, one of the judges for the Nurse of the Year category, said that Francisco won the award because of his enthusiasm and high standards he set for himself in his work.
Francisco, she said, was “always learning and improving, but never short of time for any resident in his care.”
Ambassador to London Antonio M. Lagdameo said that Francicso’s recognition proves that Filipino nurses are among the best in the world.
“Filipinos are valued all over the world for (the) selfless and committed brand of service that we extend to others,” Lagdameo said.
