Police arrested a number of people during a night raid on an illegal casino in an apartment in North Point on Hong Kong Island on Friday. Seven men and seven women were arrested during the raid.

At 10 pm, a 29-year-old Hong Kong man was arrested for allegedly operating the gambling den in an apartment at 351 King’s Road in North Point, Apple Daily reported. He was also charged with possession of illegal drugs as officers found traces of methamphetamine on him.

Seven men and seven women aged between 23 and 59 – one Thai, seven Filipinos, five from Hong Kong and one from mainland China holding a two-way permit were charged with gambling in the apartment.

One of the Filipinos was holding a temporary stay permit.

Police confiscated two electronic fishing machines, a number of stored-value cards and a card reader and HK$3,o00 (US$383) in cash from the casino.

It was believed that the gambling den, which had been in operation for two months, was controlled by a triad group, the Oriental Daily reported.
