A 30-year-old Vietnamese-American man was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday after pleading guilty to stealing a car in a shopping mall in Binh Duong, Vietnam, last year.

On August 6, 2017, Kevin Long Nguyen stole a Honda Civic outside the Becamex Tower shopping mall in Thu Dau Mot Town of Binh Duong, VN Express reported. The defendant stole the car after he failed to get a job at the mall. His crime was captured by a CCTV camera.

Three days later, Nguyen was spotted driving the stolen Civic by a group of vigilantes on August 9, 2017. The group gave chase, caught him and handed him over to authorities. He later confessed that he tried to sell the vehicle for VND470 million (US$20,600), but because he did not have documents for the car, he could not sell it.

In a previous report covered by VN Express, Nguyen reportedly confessed to being a crystal meth addict and said he was in Vietnam after he lost his job in the United States.
