Three Vietnamese men have been charged with a public order offense and banned from flying for one year after allegedly assaulting a flight attendant in Thanh Hoa because she refused to take a selfie with them.
Police said Pham Huu An, 28, Le Trung Dung, 34, and Le Van Nhi, 41, asked VietJet Air hostess Le Thi Giang to join a group photo when they were farewelling a friend at Tho Xuan Airport on November 23.
When Le refused, the men apparently became aggressive and started slapping and kicking her. An airport manager tried to defuse the situation, but the group turned on him as well. Another flight attendant who filmed the scuffle was also threatened.
The men, who were reportedly drunk, were subdued by airport security officers and taken to the police. Tho Xuan district police chief Le Nhu Anh said the case was being treated seriously by the police. They were subsequently charged with disturbing public order.
There was a similar case in April last year, when a Vietnamese man hit a VietJet Air female staff member with his bag after he was refused a boarding pass because he had arrived too late. The man was fined VND4 million (US$171).
