Hong Kong police arrested one man and two women on Friday for alleged involvement in a series of recent robberies in Tseung Kwan O and Sai Kung, the New Territories.
Officers intercepted a 45-year-old man in an apartment in Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon. An illegal immigrant from mainland China, the man was in possession of two stolen watches and a forged identity card, Sing Pao reported.
He was arrested for alleged robbery and illegal entry to Hong Kong.
A 38-year-old woman surnamed Ko and a 47-year-old woman surnamed Fu were also arrested in the apartment for allegedly handling stolen goods and aiding and abetting persons to illegally remain in Hong Kong.
Police believe the trio were behind at least ten robberies from village houses in Tseung Kwan O and Sai Kung district in October and November.
It is thought that the man broke into houses late at night and stole a computer, watches, jewelry and cash worth a total of HK$300,000 (US$38,303).
The man was also allegedly involved in a robbery that took place in Yuen Long, the New Territories on October 28, and in which the victim lost HK$55,000 worth of valuables.
The man was charged with one count of robbery and one count of landing in Hong Kong unlawfully. The two women were released on bail with orders to report to the police in December.
Police said they are continuing with their investigations, and that further arrests are possible.
