A Filipino migrant worker and a jeepney driver were arrested in Santa Ana, Manila, for alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.
Jojit Mayor, 38, a migrant worker who was in the Philippines on vacation, was caught buying a sachet of methamphetamine, while Donsuit Oronse, 46, a jeepney driver, was caught allegedly selling the substance, the Sun Star reported.
According to Senior Inspector Michael Chavez, who led the drug operation, 11 sachets of the illegal substance was seized, as well as various drug paraphernalia.
Mayor and Oronse were now detained in a police station in Manila and will face charges of violating the Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
In the Philippines, the maximum penalty for violating RA 9165 is a jail term of 12 years and a fine of PHP100,000 (US$1,878).
