A man was detained by police after he allegedly stole a mobile phone from a Filipina domestic worker in a shop in Tuen Mun in the New Territories on Friday.

At 1 pm, a Filipina domestic worker was shopping in a store on 18 Kai Man Path and she put her mobile phone in her pocket, the Apple Daily reported. While she was busy shopping, a man approached her and stole her phone from behind and then ran off.

A grandmother who was in the shop saw the robbery and yelled at the man. She also asked other customers to tell the domestic worker what had happened.

The domestic worker chased after the thief while calling for help. Some passersby and officers from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department helped her chase the man.

After a chase lasting about 100 meters they caught the man outside the Yan Oi Tong Jockey Club Community & Sports Centre. Police then arrived and took the man to a police station.
