A Filipino domestic worker who escaped from her employer’s home has been rescued by her compatriots in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The domestic worker was found walking on a street barefoot, wearing her pajamas without an Abaya, which is a loose over-garment worn by Saudi women, GMA News reported.

Thearhea Tungol, one of the Filipino workers who found the woman, said they saw her at a terminal near the hospital where they were working. Tungol said she approached the woman, who said she ran away from her employer and pleaded for help so she could escape.

Tungol took her inside the hospital and contacted the office of Migrants Rights Advocate to help the woman go to the Philippine Consulate. Tungol said she seemed mentally disturbed and might have been depressed. It was not known if she had been maltreated by her employer.

Yolanda Peñaranda, a welfare officer of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, gave assistance to the woman and would contact her employer once they obtained more information from the domestic worker.
