An 18-year-old Filipino-American student was killed in a mass shooting in a bar in Southern California in the United States on Wednesday evening.

According to the Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Alaina Ponzalan Housley, a freshman at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, was among the 12 fatalities in the shooting, GMA News reported.

On Wednesday, a gunman opened fire and killed 12 people in a crowded bar that was popular among college students. Police identified the man as Ian David Long, 28, who was found dead in the office of the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks after apparently having shot himself.

Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said Long had apparently fired at random with a .45-caliber Glock handgun and that there was no known motive. The DFA said it was monitoring the situation to find out if other Filipinos and Filipino-Americans were killed or injured in the incident.
