Social media critics slammed a domestic worker in Hong Kong who was allegedly seen carrying a child on her shoulders while concentrating on her smartphone.

A concerned witness to the incident uploaded four photos to Facebook on Wednesday which showed a child wearing kindergarten uniform riding on a woman’s shoulders in Mong Kok, Kowloon.

In the photos, the woman is using both hands to operate her smartphone. She appears not to be holding onto the child’s legs, even when they ride an the escalator.

The photos were taken at the bus terminal at the Mong Kok East MTR station and at the MOKO shopping mall in Mong Kok.

Some Facebook commentators speculated that the woman was a domestic worker, while others claimed to recognize the child, saying they had alerted the girl’s parents to how the domestic worker was behaving when taking care of their daughter.

Critics were quick to condemn the domestic worker for letting the child ride on her shoulders on a busy street, which they considered dangerous. Others were aghast at how the woman seemed to be paying more attention to her phone than to the surrounding environment.

One person criticized the worker for not even holding onto the handrail when they rode on an escalator, noting that it was not only dangerous for the little girl but also for the domestic worker herself.
