The tiny country of Lebanon is one of the most critical hubs for birds worldwide, a funnel for millions of birds passing between Africa and Europe and Asia on their yearly migration routes.
It is also one of the most dangerous, if not the most dangerous country over which the birds pass.
Every year, more than 2.5 million birds are slaughtered in the skies by lawless hunters making no distinction between common birds and those threatened by endangerment.
Of Lebanon’s population of 4.5 million people, conservationists assess there are 600,000 hunters. The government has passed laws aimed at regulating the hunting season.
But a report by Asia Times finds that many hunters continue to shoot indiscriminately and without fear of repercussion.

I hate to say this, but you screwed up, and went South, when you talked about family. You must be a bastard yourself because you are generalizing a whole country. I don’t dispute the fact that some idiots in Lebanon are violating not only the laws, but the nature’s laws as well by killing rare traveling birds, and must be punished but not rediculed by a mut like you.

Whats with the “Muslim, Christian, Druze”?? We are Lebanese regardless. No distinction between Muslim, Christian, Druze. As for bird hunting in Lebanon, it originated when the Ottoman empire occupied Lebanon for 450 years. The Lebanese had to hunt in order to survive. Hardly any hunting today is for leasure, most of the 2 Million Syrian refugees prefer to hunt for food than work. There are probably 5k to 7k bird hunters in Lebanon, no more. But even if there are 6 Million bird hunters, hunting regulations should be enforced, unfortunately our police force is stretched thin dealing with 2 million Syrian refugees and one million Palestinian refugees. We had to opt between saving the birds or saving the refugees. 320,000 Syrian refugee women give birth each year in Lebanon. The governement and our resources are depleted. Help us saving human life, donate to our charity organizations instead of venting your hate. The hunting regulations will be enforced once we have the manpower. This is small contingent who are doing this- The traditional hunting in these hills begand when the population was a fraction of what it is today. But make no mistake, Lebanon is still a Third world country with its diaparity and generational brain drain. Sectaranism is stalling all its progress….

I do not understand how you can condemn all of the Lebanese people when obviously not all of them are killers, however you forgot the Americans, Europeans and South Africans who hunt Tigers, Lions , Elephants and endangered species and post them all over social media….I did not see any Lebanese post a photo next to a Lion or Tiger…..But obviously generalising a country is proof of poor education and little to know knowledge and self respect.
