An arrest warrant has been issued for a 30-year-old Filipina domestic worker after she failed to show up at a court hearing where she faced charges of theft.
Mardelyn Mae Bandiola was arrested for allegedly stealing a total of HK$470 (US$60) in cash from employer Lee Yuen-shan between August 29 to 31 this year. The theft allegedly took place in the apartment on the 13th floor of Tower 1, Dynasty Court, in Mid-Levels on Hong Kong Island, sunwebhk.com reported.
The woman was arrested by police shortly after the money went missing. She was released on bail and ordered to appear in court when the case was to be heard.
However, she failed to appear on September 14 for the hearing. An interpreter was told by the court to look for her outside the courtroom when the court reader called her name but no one responded. The interpreter could not find anyone.
Magistrate Peter Law at the Eastern Magistrates’ Court told the prosecution that the defendant must not be granted bail.
