Video footage of a wild monkey stealing a cobra from a snake charmer outside a temple in India last Friday has gone viral. Security camera footage from outside the Burbank Temple in Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh showed a monkey jump down from a wall when it saw a snake charmer take a cobra out of a basket, UPI reported.
The monkey quickly grabs the snake and climbs back up the wall. At the end of the video, the snake charmer is shown trying to climb up a roof to chase the monkey. Witnesses said he ultimately failed to get his snake back.
Local resident Avatans Kumar, 23, said this was possibly the first time anyone has seen a monkey steal a snake, mistaking it to be food.
Monkeys are known to be mischievous and light-fingered. Interestingly, monkeys are also able to determine items valuable to humans and steal them.
In turn, some use the stolen items to barter with humans for food, as depicted in a BBC documentary.

Monkeys, in India, can be very cheeky and can steal anything from your hands if not careful!
