A mother and her son were injured seriously when they were hit by a private car in the Mid-Levels district of Hong Kong Island on Saturday.

The accident happened at around noon when a 62-year-old woman surnamed Wong was driving her car along Robinson Road towards Central, Sing Tao Daily reported.

The car suddenly left the road and mounted the pavement where a family of three were walking.

The car struck a 42-year-old mother from behind before hitting her 13-year-old son. The boy was found lying on the road seven meters away from where he was hit.

After striking the two pedestrians, the car then collided with another vehicle before crashing into a wall on the opposite side of the road, where it burst into flames.

Wong, who was reportedly too frightened to move, was pulled from her car by a Nepalese security guard named Gurung, Sing Pao reported.

Police officers, firemen and paramedics soon arrived on the scene, and the two victims were rushed to the Queen Mary Hospital. Wong, who suffered chest and back injuries, was also sent for treatment.

Wong and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision both passed breathalyzer tests.
