A 56-year-old foreign man was seriously injured on Saturday when he fell from a balcony while trying to pick up earphones he dropped on a lower floor in an upscale residential block on Hong Kong Island.

At 1:40am on Saturday, the man was having a drink and listening to music on the balcony of his apartment on the 9th floor of Bel-Air Phase 4 in Cyberport. He then accidentally dropped his earphones on the balcony of the eighth floor, Headline Daily reported.

He climbed over his balcony and attempted to climb down the external wall. However, he lost his balance and fell to a balcony on the seventh floor. He fracture the bones in both legs in the fall and called for help.

The man’s wife heard his screams and called for help. Her husband was sent to hospital.

After an initial investigation, police said the man, who was drunk, fell from the balcony by accident. They did not suspect any foul play.
